The ‘Year of the Grenadier’ is being executed from July 2022 until July 2023 and consists of Company’s from the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards carrying out a number of charity fundraising endurance walking events across England; with Nijmegen Company carrying out an event in Europe.

The location and timing of company events is as follows:

  • The Queen’s Company. Whilst deployed on Operations in Iraq (Op SHADER) the Company will cycle, run and row the distance from Erbil in Iraq, to Lille Barracks, Aldershot totalling 3000 miles or 71 miles per person. Additionally, the Company plan to march the 84 mile route of Hadrian’s Wall from Bowness on Solway to Wallsend in March 2023.
  • Number Two Company. It is planned for number Two Company to march from Plymouth to Bristol (via Weymouth) over a one week period in Feb 2023. Which will incorporate visits to the Wessex, Bath and Bristol Branch’s.
  • Support Company. The Company plans to cycle, jog and carry a log over a 218 mile route from Dover to Norwich in September 2022 (12 to 18), the route will incorporate the following Association Branches: East Kent, Medway, Suffolk, March and Norfolk.NOTE: It is understood that the East Kent Branch may be contacted and invited to participate in the Dover to Rochester leg of the route (approx 59 miles) on Tuesday 13th. Are there any members, or Grenadier non-members, willing to join the Company members for a few miles along that route, or to do that entire section of the route?
  • The Inkerman Company. The Inkerman Company has already completed their 141 mile march from Lille Barracks to Boscobel House in Shropshire. This was conducted in July 2022.
  • Nijmegen Company. The Company plan to march from Bruges to London (via Dunkirk) over a five day period (17 to 21 October 2022) to commemorate the return from exile of Charles II, this will hopefully culminate in a Freedom Parade in London. The planned route encompasses the following branch areas: East Kent, Medway, Kingston and London.NOTE: It is understood that our Branch may be contacted and invited to participate in the Canterbury leg of the route (Tuesday 20 October perhaps (that date TBC)). At the recent Secretary’s meeting and Association AGM, a presentation also mentioned the “East Kent Branch EVENT” (although we know not what that might be yet). Are there any members, or Grenadier non-members, willing to join me and the Company members for a few miles along that route, or to do that entire section of the route?
